LinkedIn is reaching out to the high school set with its new University Pages.
The new feature allows colleges to create pages for their institution, and users can connect with alumni and current students worldwide among LinkedIn’s 238 million members. So far, LinkedIn says more than 23,000 college and universities are participating.
Prospective students can get first-hand access to students, alumni and faculty, and troll school data, such as job placement after graduation.
The University Pages provide schools with yet another social media tool to reach high school students. With social media so popular among young adults, social media marketing has become a key channel to reach prospective students and marketers are always looking for fresh ideas. The pages also connect institutions with alumni, giving them another channel for targeted fundraising.
Alumni and employers can also make use of the University Pages. For alumni, the feature is a way to connect with old classmates, for personal and professional development. Employers can post ads to reach a certain student population at a particular university or type of school.
