Why More People Should Watch Your Videos

Online video usage is soaring, with young and older adults increasingly posting and viewing videos.  And that means fresh marketing opportunities for organizations to reach users with targeted video messages.

Among adult Internet users, 78% now watch or download videos online, up from 69% in 2009, according to new data from the Pew Research Center’s Internet Project.

In addition, 31% of adult Internet users are now posting video, up from 14% three years ago, according to Pew research.

 

As expected, young adults are the most active with online video, with 41% of 18-29 year-old internet users and 36% of 30-49 year-old internet users posting or sharing video online. With viewing, younger adults lead with 95% of 18 to 49 year olds watching online video content.

Video sharing sites have exploded in popularity, with 72% of online adults using sites like YouTube, up from just 33% in 2006.

Social media video is surging, with 71% of adults saying they post video to social media sites and 58% report watching video on social networking sites.

And what are the most popular videos? Comedy led the way, with 57% of adults viewing, followed by instructional videos (57%); educational videos (50%); and music videos (50%)
